Yoga Privates
In my work as a yoga instructor I have found that for many people, private yoga instruction provides the ideal environment in which to experience yoga, either as a newcomer to the practice or for those with issues that make traditional classes challenging. Prior to your first session, we will determine what you are seeking from private instruction, whether it be working with an injury or chronic illness, working through grief or trauma in the body, or seeking general improvement in health, fitness, or relaxation.
What you will need
Any props that we may use—bolsters, blankets, straps and blocks-- are provided, although I encourage you to bring your own mat by the second session. Please wear comfortable clothing that allows you to stretch, but is not too baggy. We will work barefoot, if that is comfortable for you and the temperature in the room will be regulated for your comfort. Music is available, if you find that it enhances your practice, and you are welcome to bring your own if you have some that you find particular soothing or inspirational.
What we will do
Sessions will typically start with a brief check-in and then, after making yourself comfortable, we will start with breathing and pranayama. We may incorporate some chant here, if you desire as well. We will then move through a warm-up phase, then into the more vigorous poses, then a cool-down and end with a final relaxation period or savasana. Although this is the basic framework, there are many possible variations, depending on your requests or needs. We can include or focus exclusively on restorative poses, one area of the body or pose in particular, or any other combination that feels appropriate.
